The Prosperity Gospel: An Analysis of Its Evolution and Influence in Pentecostal-Charismatic Christianity, 1940–2024
By Dr. Bradley SliedrechtPresented to: Karunya Bible Institute International, India.
This dissertation presents the most comprehensive theological, historical, and sociocultural examination of the Prosperity Gospel to date. Spanning from its mid-20th-century origins to its global dominance by 2024, this work traces the movement’s theological evolution, institutional influence, and reinterpretation of doctrines such as salvation, healing, eschatology, and suffering. With original research across five continents and dozens of case studies—including church practices in Africa, North America, and Latin America—Dr. Sliedrecht critiques how prosperity theology has reshaped the Pentecostal-Charismatic imagination, often replacing biblical hope with material ambition.
The study integrates doctrinal analysis, interviews, historical trajectories, and a proposed theological framework rooted in biblical fidelity. It also includes appendices on biblical hermeneutics, church accountability, and ethical leadership. This research not only exposes theological distortions but also offers a path forward for leaders and believers seeking to restore gospel integrity in an age of theological compromise.
